Lu-Yang Wang, Ph.D.

University of Toronto
Senior Scientist, Neuroscience & Mental Health Research Institute

Professor and Associate Chair (Academic), Department of Physiology

Canada Research Chair, Brain Development and Disorders

Dr. Wang’s research program focuses on synaptic transmission and plasticity in the developing brain, and synaptic remodeling in neurodevelopment disorders such as autism spectrum disorder with a particular focus on synaptic proteins and ion channels regulating neurotransmitter release and replenishment. Dr. Wang and his team have made ground-breaking discoveries about fundamental mechanisms underlying morphological and functional remodeling of synapses during the critical period of development, leading to publications in top-tier journals including Nature, Science, Neuron, PNAS, Nature Neurosci, Mol Psychiatry, Nature Comm, J Neurosci, etc.
